Chicago PD season 11 is not coming to NBC in September 2023

Chicago PD devastated us with its season 10 finale. Not only was Voight (Jason Beghe) caught in an explosion and briefly sidelined, but Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) was stabbed and rushed to the hospital in the final moments. We’re still unsure whether the veteran police officer will survive…

It was a fantastic cliffhanger, and one that made NBC’s decision to renew the show a no brainer. Sadly, the season 11 premiere that sheds light on Ruzek’s fate will not be coming in September, or any other month in 2023. Chicago PD has been delayed all the way until 2024, though a specific release date has yet to be specified.

When is Chicago PD coming back?

This is due to the ongoing writers and actors strike. Many of the cast and crew involved with PD have voiced their support for the strike, and some have even been seen picketing on the front lines in Hollywood. Amy Morton, who plays Trudy Platt, talked to the Chicago Tribune about the strike and how important it is for the future generations of writers and actors.

“I really hope we don’t give in with any concessions on residuals,” Morton stated. “We probably gave up too much last time. I’m one of the lucky ones; I’ll be able to get through the strike. But most of my friends are screwed.” She also noted that the reason she is “lucky” is because of the residuals she’s gotten from being on a show like Chicago PD. “If I didn’t have Chicago PD, I’d be [screwed], too,” she added.

There can’t be a show until the creatives involved have their conditions met, and until then, the show will remain on the shelf. There will be a notable hit in terms of episode number, however, as the usual 20 plus episode count for a PD season will likely be cut in half due to NBC’s schedule and the amount of time (or lack thereof) that writers and actors will have to work on season 11.
