Are Daryl Dixon's Villains Connected To The Walking Dead's CRM?

Daryl Dixon's spinoff villains share many similarities with The Walking Dead's CRM, raising questions over whether the two groups are connected.

SUMMARY

  •  Daryl Dixon's villains, led by Genet, have a vast amount of similarities to The Walking Dead's CRM.
  •  There is a possibility for The Walking Dead to eventually connect Genet's group to the CRM, considering their shared values, philosophies, and interest in zombie science.
  • Given how many parallels there are between both groups, Daryl Dixon's villains invite discussion over a possible link to The Walking Dead's CRM.

First making their presence known around The Walking Dead season 8, the Civic Republic Military have since become a major storyline bubbling under the franchise's surface. After abducting Rick Grimes, committing multiple acts of genocide, and creeping around various The Walking Dead TV shows, the CRM is primed as AMC's big bad, and those seeds should finally bear fruit in Rick and Michonne's upcoming spinoff, The Ones Who Live.

Before then, Daryl Dixon visits what remains of France. The main villain of Daryl's Walking Dead spinoff is Anne Charrier's Genet, who leads a cause known as "Pouvoir des Vivants," with a group of fearsome Guerriers serving at her behest. Although many questions about Genet's organization remain unanswered, Daryl Dixon has confirmed her intention to rebuild France, while also revealing the Pouvoir des Vivants' interest in zombie variant experiments. Just as the CRM is the most advanced group in The Walking Dead's post-apocalyptic United States, Genet's militia appears to be the most influential faction in Daryl Dixon's French setting.

Madame Genet in The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon

Despite sharing an eerie amount in common, Daryl Dixon offers no hints or suggestions that Genet's Pouvoir des Vivants is connected to the CRM. This is emphasized by the differing logos used by each group. Whereas the CRM famously emblazons every vehicle and piece of uniform with its three rings logo, Genet's people use a torch as their emblem.

There is no allusion to a higher power or shadowy boss pulling Genet's strings, and whereas the CRM goes to extreme lengths to keep its existence a closely-guarded secret, the Guerriers take advantage of their reputation and notoriety to intimidate other survivors. All signs indicate that no connection exists between Daryl Dixon's Pouvoir des Vivants and The Walking Dead's CRM. Until confirmation to the contrary arrives, one must assume these are entirely separate entities.

Daryl Dixon Can Connect Genet's Group To The Walking Dead's CRM - Eventually

Although Daryl Dixon draws no direct link between the CRM and Genet, the door remains open for The Walking Dead to join those dots in a future episode. The full influence of the CRM remains unknown, but with access to aerial and naval transportation, trips between France and the United States are not impossible. Daryl Dixon could feasibly unmask Pouvoir des Vivants as the CRM's French branch, with Genet acting as an independent commander, but still falling under the larger CRM umbrella. This would account for Genet's autonomy and her Guerriers' lack of secrecy, but also explain why both antagonistic forces share the same values, philosophies, methods, and interest in zombie science.

Daryl Dixon episode 3 supports this idea by confirming a "military helicopter" crashed into the Eiffel Tower. While the aircraft most likely belonged to the French Air Force, any mention of helicopters in The Walking Dead immediately brings the CRM to mind, creating a potential connection between Rick's captors and post-outbreak France. Fear The Walking Dead has also introduced PADRE - another villainous military force that abducts children, experiments on zombies, and keeps its existence quiet. Given how all three are essentially the same, The Walking Dead's future could eventually confirm both Pouvoir des Vivants and PADRE as CRM offshoots controlled from afar.
