The Peacock series The Continental is set in the John Wick universe, but what are the chances of the titular assassin showing up in the show?
SUMMARY
- The Continental is a TV series set in the 1970s and follows a younger version of Winston as he manages the hotel, showcasing the same grimy but stylish aesthetic as the John Wick movies.
- Despite being linked to John Wick, it's highly unlikely that Keanu Reeves will appear in The Continental due to the show's time period and the expanding world of John Wick spinoffs.
- While it's impossible for Reeves to return, a different actor could potentially play a young version of John Wick, or the character could be referred to, leaving room for a possible appearance in future seasons with a time jump.
Given the subject material, it's worth wondering if Keanu Reeves' John Wick will make an appearance in The Continental . The Continental follows a younger version of Winston (Colin Woodell) in the 1970s as he comes into management at the titular hotel. The show will interpolate real-life events, such as the Italian mafia's rise to power and the Winter of Discontent. Most importantly, the trailer showcases how well the TV series has maintained the grimy but stylish aesthetic of the John Wick series.
Along with Winston, a younger version of Charon (Ayomide Adegun), The Continental's trusted concierge, will be on hand as well. The Continental will be three 90-minute episodes , and based on the titles of each entry, the whole series takes place over just three nights. This aspect of the show continues the trend of the John Wick movies being set within such a short span of time and deepens the sense of connectivity between Wick's films and the spinoff. In addition to being set in the same world, the series shares a great deal of the John Wick movies' DNA .
Keanu Reeves' John Wick Is Not In The Continental
Though the show is intrinsically linked to Keanu Reeves' John Wick, it appears the actor isn't in The Continental cast. Though that casting could be being kept secret, it's extremely unlikely that Reeves will return in The Continental. Given that it's set in the 1970s, it's nigh impossible for Reeves to appear. The Continental's subtitle is "From the World of John Wick," which is essentially a marketing tool to get the audience's attention, but it also means that separate stories can be told without Reeves. The "world" of John Wick is quickly expanding with multiple spinoffs, and it simply wouldn't make sense if Reeves featured in every one of them, especially one set 40 years earlier.
How Old John Wick Would Be In The Continental (Can He Still Appear?)
Wick's age has never been revealed, but the character is likely in his mid-40s in the first 2014 movie. This is based on Reeves' late 40s age when he shot the movie, but between looking much younger than his age, and Wick being recently married and still so agile, the character was likely a few years younger than Reeves' real age. As The Continental is set in the 1970s, John would be just an infant during the series timeline, and there's a small chance that the expert assassin hasn't even been born yet. However, while it's logistically impossible for Reeves to return in The Continental, Wick could still appear.
It's possible that a different actor could be cast as a young version of John Wick, just like what's been done with Winston and Charon (though the cast list doesn't reveal any young actor playing Wick). Given the theory that Winston is John Wick's father, it's absolutely possible that a baby John Wick could appear if the theory turns out to be true, or at the very least, John Wick could be referred to by name. Either way, whether or not he appears, the character could feature in The Continental season 2, provided there's a massive time jump.
